Studio Arts / UX

PROJECT: UX Research and Design for the Studio Arts Website Redesign

ROLE: UX researcher, designer

CHALLENGE: Studio Arts, a technical school for creative professionals, had already invested a lot of time and money on a redesign for their website when I was brought in for a consultation on the visual design. Upon review, I immediately identified some brand building and UX tactics that would help to achieve a better performing site. I quickly had to demonstrate that the design issues that needed to be solved were beyond typeface and imagery changes.

DISCOVERY: [A] I designed and led a working session with key stakeholders and representative customers to understand the business goals, establish brand positioning, and develop key messaging.

[B] I then performed a content audit to determine which content was relevant to the shared goals, customer’s needs, and the targeted brand image.

[C] To further explore how to organize content, add categories, and modify labels in the most intuitive way for users, I conducted a tree test.

IMPLEMENTATION: [D] After getting client buy-in on the proposed content changes, I developed a site map to reflect the new streamlined content.

[E] Whereas the previous site version was not a responsive design and displayed poorly on mobile, I took a mobile first approach when creating wireframes, which were used to walk through the redesign.

RESULT: Design execution and development currently are on hold.
